At the day and time of our births, the stars in the skies are positioned to show, to those who have the eyes to see, a virtual road map of the challenges and trials we have taken incarnation to face and overcome, along with the strengths with which we’ve been blessed, to help us on this journey of the spirit in the human body. So the glittering skies are, at that time, in effect a giant looking glass reflecting back to us our true nature.

This is why I developed Star Song Oracles readings, so that we can get a true picture of what the stars were actually singing at the time of our births.

The ancient myths actually began life as songs, sung by bards and minstrels, about the huge giants and strange beasts in the night skies and carrying metaphors about what their presence in our charts meant for us psychologically and spiritually.

Initiates into the ancient Mysteries were sometimes referred to as those who had “knowledge of the stars.” It comes from a time when ‘astrology’ and ‘astronomy’ were not separate sciences… they were linked in one living and breathing system which was about knowing who we are, our true star natures, in real time. We need this more holistic knowledge of the stars to know ourselves and thus our place in the universe. That’s why I say Star Song Oracles will give you an astrological reading with an astronomical difference.

It’s not just about knowing our own individual destiny. Shamans who work with restoring the connection and the fertility of the land act as holographic conduits between the Heavens (the stars) and the Earth – as Above, so Below. This is why shamans of old would often paint the star constellations on the skins of their drums. It’s no different today. All shamans need to know their true stellar nature so that when we are performing land magic, everything lines up, like tumbrils in a lock, to unlock the healing dragon paths, at the right place and at the right time.

However, we cannot find the answers we need in traditional Western astrology, also known as tropical astrology. Tropical astrology is a credible science that works well and is fit for the purposes of personal divination. But it is based on a system that effectively froze the night skies to how it looked about 4,000 years ago, in the Age of Aries.

It was the Alexandrian philosopher ruler Claudius Ptolemy of the 3rd century BCE who established the Spring Equinox at 21st March in Aries, and there it has remained ever since, within tropical astrology. But in reality, out deep in Space, the stars are continually following their spiralling dance of the spheres, and the Spring Equinox has been moving backwards from there, ever since, and will soon be in the sign of Aquarius.

The stars are perpetually pursuing their inexorable courses, and our view of them changes over time because of the tilt of the Earth. So according to what we currently see in the night skies, we’re on the cusp of the Age of Aquarius. But in our Western zodiacal understanding, we’ve been frozen by the Time Bandits in the Age of Aries, 4,000 years ago, and we need a Grailkeeper, who understands the Mysteries of Time and Space, to release us.

A miss is as good as a mile

The importance of understanding the Mysteries of Time and Space was brought home to me while watching the launch one of Elon Musk’s SpaceX rockets, the other day. There were ‘issues’, and it missed its time window, and another one wouldn’t come around for a few days. There is only a one second window for a rocket to launch if its trajectory is to bring it to its correct destination – in this case, the International Space Station.  At those kinds of distances, a miss is as good as a mile. Much more so then in the journey of life.

So how can we reconcile the holographic interconnectness of the human being in Time and Space? How can we melt the ice so that we can flow like a river to reach the cosmic seas of our destinies?

Well, it is actually very quick and easy in these technologically-advanced days, to discover what the sky was actually showing at the times of our births, by using an online ephemeris like Stellarium. Then you can find out that say, if you’ve been told by Western astrologers that you’re a Capricorn, you may well be a Sagittarius, and if you believe that you are Sagittarius, you may be well be a Scorpio … and so on. And it’s not only the Sun sign that changes; the position of your Moon and your Ascendant moves too. So feeding the day and time of your birth into Stellarium gives you a whole new looking glass to gaze into, to discover your true nature.

Here’s an example that shows the difference between those two astrological systems, using an imaginary woman born in London on Christmas Day (25th December) in 1954 at 3.30 am.

The first chart shows the reading through a Western, tropical astrology lens, and it shows her Sun Sign as Capricorn, her Moon in Sagittarius and her Ascendant as Scorpio.

But if we release her from the ice, by feeding her information into Stellarium, we can see that the Sun was not passing through not a Capricorn at the time of her birth in 1954; it was actually passing through Sagittarius. And whereas the frozen Western system gave her a Moon in Sagittarius and an Ascendant in Scorpio, in the real looking glass, her Moon is still in Sagittarius but it is – very importantly – eclipsing the Sun there. And her Ascendant is in Serpens – which is sometimes described as the Higher Self of Scorpio. In my opinion, we’re actually seeing the looking glass reflection of a very wise, highly gifted and deeply magical crone. I’d love to meet her one day!

The constellations, in the real, flowing sky, are of different sizes. This means that they cannot be mapped on to a 360 degree circle of twelve equal-sized sections as they are in Western, tropical astrology.  The snapshot (below) of the night sky illustrates my point. You can see there are vast differences in the sizes of Libra, Virgo, Leo and Cancer.

And so, depending on the size of the constellation, on Stellarium the Sun may still be in the same sign that it was at the time of your birth, but in a different position and this is crucial because of something called decans and rulerships.

If you were born when the Sun was just beginning to traverse, say, Virgo, your challenges will be very different to someone who was born when the Sun was reaching the end of Virgo. Here’s why.

Going back to at least as far as the Babylonians, the constellations were divided into three sections, which came to be known as decans. Each decan was ruled by its own planetary deity, as follows:

And so just to give one example: if you were born under a Sun that was just beginning to pass through Virgo, your ruler is Mercury. When the Sun reaches the middle, though, it’s Saturn and towards the end, Venus. These are three very different planetary rulers with very different qualities, as you can see from this chart derived from information found in Astrology Decoded by Sue Merlyn Farebrother.

However, all this is not just an anorak exercise – although it helps if you are anorak, like me, to understand it! But it has a wide and ultimately transformative practical application that, when applied in land magic, brings great benefits to all on Earth.

The earliest name for Glastonbury is Ynis Witrin, which meant Isle of Glass. In the Celtic myths, Merlin hides the Thirteen Treasures of Britain in a Glass House. As I show in my book The Grail Mysteries, Merlin’s thirteen treasures are the thirteen constellations (including Ophiuchus) that are visible from the air on the great, 10-mile wide, earthwork sky map carved into the Somerset levels known as the Glastonbury Temple of the Stars.

This summer, I’m teaching fledgling shamans how to release themselves from their frozen understanding and to find their true reflection in the living and breathing looking glass above, on the Glastonbury Temple of the Stars. Then once their alignment is true, they are able to act as a conduits there, to bring down the blessings from the heavens.

This article is all about the true role of the shaman. It is not to storm Capitol buildings. It’s a more inward-facing role. The role of the shaman is to use the knowledge of the true self, discovered through the Mysteries of Time and Space, to bring the Heavens down to the Earth and with it, an abundance and plenitude of peace and blessings to man below.
