I’m really enjoying providing Star Song Oracles readings for people and loving their surprised reactions to experiencing a new lens through which to view their path through life.

One described the reading as being given a new wardrobe of clothes that fit better. Another found that it more describes how she has been feeling post-menopause, that time in our lives when we have the time and space — and not just practically, but also biochemically, and with the help of Saturn’s return — to access the deeper wisdom in ourselves.

A Star Song Oracles chart is an astrological reading with an astronomical difference.

It will show you where the Sun and planets were orbitally flowing at the day and time of your birth, as opposed to a chart from Western tropical astrology in which those ‘star rivers’ were frozen into permanent winter at the Spring Equinox in Aries, 4,000 years ago. It’s more live, in other words. (This article goes more deeply into how the methods differ: Bringing the Heavens Down to the Earth.)

To steal a line from Carl Jung, I’m finding that this way of viewing my chart is like reincarnating into my own life. It came to me as a great relief to realise that there was no fault in my stars; that I no longer had to bend myself out of shape, which I’d been doing thus far, subconsciously, to try to fit who I’d been told I was. It was as if I’d been trying to squeeze myself into an outfit that I couldn’t quite pull off, like an ill-fitting suit.

It’s also proving really useful to be able to bring in my mythological knowledge, from Stories in the Stars, for the constellations not included in the Western zodiac like Cetus the Whale, the Underworld river of Eridanus, the Hunter Orion and the Bridegroom Ophiuchus. The planets, and sometimes the Sun, orbitally dance through these stellar giants and mythical beasts and so if, say, Mercury was in the serpent belt of Ophiuchus at the day and time of our birth, it’s highly significant. What we call ‘myths’ began life as songs, and the purpose of these bardic compositions was to highlight the mythic character’s para-psychological, emotional and spiritual significance to our lives.
