Why ancient sacred love magic in modern times?

What is its relevance today? A friend asked me this when I published the second edition of The Sacred Sex Rites of Ishtar. I replied that sacred love and shamanic sexuality has never been more relevant if we are to recover and unravel the mysteries of the true magical force innately available to every human being, but which is currently shrouded by ignorance.

Until we realise what sort of starship the human body-mind-spirit container is, we will always be flailing around in ignorance and getting involved with useless boondoggles and grifts to solve problems that would not otherwise exist. Natural innate intelligence far outweighs Artificial Intelligence when the pineal gland is sparked into activation by these love rites.

When love making is held up in the light and the glory of the most highest, it directly and instantaneously casts out the Shadow side that is currently plaguing mankind as the Savile-Epstein dark underbelly of power manipulation.

In the absence of this divine sacrament taking place between men and women, the world is experiencing a manifestation of what is known in the Qabalah as the demonic Qlippoth worlds. That’s why I believe that sacramental love and shamanic sex has never been more relevant as an answer to the crisis currently faced by humanity.

For a long time, I’ve been inspired by the writings and inner guidance of the early 20th century magician Dion Fortune, and these words, from her book The Mystical Qabalah, sum up perfectly the need to recover this information.

“… the subtler aspects of sex … appears to be entirely lost to the Western world … All the more important aspects of sex are etheric and magnetic. We might liken it to an ice-berg, five sixths of whose bulk is below the surface. The actual physical reactions of sex form a very small proportion, and by no means the vital portion of its functioning. It is owing to our ignorance of this that many marriages fail.

“We take no account of the magical side of marriage, despite the fact that the Church classes it as a sacrament. Now a sacrament is defined as an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace, which is seldom found in the marriage act of the Anglo-Saxon races, with their relatively frigid temperament and contempt for the body.

“That inward and spiritual grace which makes marriage a true sacrament after its kind is not the grace of sublimation, or renunciation, or purity of denial and absention; it is the grace of the blessing of Pan in the joy of natural things …”


Dion doesn’t say more than that, but I feel that it was her etheric influence that drove me along in my work to uncover the historical, literary and artistic evidence for the practice of sacred love making, going back for thousands of years.

I found that the ability to tap into the blessings of Pan – or the spirits of the land – used to be transmitted to kings and pharaohs upon their coronations by a hierodule or cuen (sacred prostitute) who was in touch with these extra-dimensional beings or life-forms. These days, I prefer the term ‘womb shaman’.

But whatever we call them, I’ve found that female shamans and high priestesses in Neolithic times were in communion with these spirits of the land, and so they were able to transmit their wisdom to the king or pharaoh during sacramental love rites. These shamanic practices became known as Sovereignty rites because they created a force that fired up the king’s higher brain centres, giving him a superior intelligence and thus the ability and the right to reign, with the crown he wore on his head merely a symbol of his enlightened inner crown.

I have also practically experienced it, and can therefore say with certainty that the claims for it alchemically-producing greater intelligence and wisdom are true. In my own case, I was a complete blind to it for most of my life until I was awakened to my innate powers by the spirits.
