It’s been said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Well yes, that’s true. But we can’t leave it there. I mean, what are we supposed to do? Act from bad intentions?
The good intentions that create the paving slabs are often not the whole story. Behind those seemingly pure and altruistic resolves, we can find their real drivers. These include vanity, insecurity, and a desire for recognition and fame. Now we can’t help those faults. We are only human after all. But the very road to hell itself can help us transform them… and thus ourselves on The Way to our enlightenment.
Just like Dorothy and Toto, we can follow our yellow brick road into Oz. And as they did, we discover in that wizard’s enchanted city the source of all our problems. These are the shadows that keep us in the dark. They are what keep our lives from being heaven. We’ll find them right there, behind the green curtain.
We will meet our demons. Well, I’m calling them ‘demons’ to stay in line with Christian cosmology. These entities would be better referred to as ‘energy in the wrong place’. They are not essentially evil; but in acting in their own best interests, they will be blind to ours.
In the same way, say, if you were walking through a jungle at night. A lion that’s out on the prowl could mistake you for an antelope, and bite off your head. You wouldn’t say that the lion was evil. The lion was just doing its lion thing. If anything, it was you that was the ‘energy in the wrong place’.
In other words, there is a time and place for everything under the heavens. Matters only go wrong when those boundaries are not respected, either through ignorance, or through deliberate malevolence.
Demons, likewise, can only exist within certain parameters. They live on the lower astral planes. A shaman would not usually deliberately visit this place. They have much bigger fish to try. However, it is the layer of the weave of the Web that we all pass through when dropping into sleep. So you could get caught on the way down into the Land of Nod.
Essentially, demons are like fishermen in the seas of consciousness. They hook us in with the bait of our vanities, insecurities and desires. They are great flatterers. So if you find yourself simpering and blushing with delight, you might want to check your mirror.
They can adopt any disguise. It seems as if they have access to our memory banks. They will not hesitate to wear the guise of a good friend. They may also appear as a loved family member. It’s only when you look deeply into the gravestones of their eyes that you can tell the difference.
Don’t be afraid of demons. Even if you end up getting beguiled and unwittingly spending time with one, that’s perfectly fine too. The truth will always out in the end: that’s their Achilles Heel. Time is not on their side.
Just keep one eye open when it’s up to its tricks. It knows how to spin fantasies. It can weave enchantments with light and sound waves. So you might also want to learn how to do this. I once had a demon. It got very annoyed at me when I learned how to re-spin his mirages to better suit my own dreams!
If you find yourself being bothered by an unwanted astral visitor that can’t take the hint, there’s a simple remedy. During your psychic protection practices, ask your spirit guides to send out a loud sound frequency. Like a dog whistle, only the unwanted entity can hear it. It makes it too uncomfortable to stay anywhere near you.
In truth, no real spiritual transformation is possible without visiting what Jung called our Shadow side.
So have no fear. It is only Christian conditioning that causes us to be frightened of demons. We can’t go wrong from the encounter. We shall not be “cast into a furnace of fire where there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.” Even if such a place exists, which I highly doubt.
Every adventure along The Way is always a good adventure in the end. You learn so much from it about yourself. You also discover what stands in the way of your ultimate enlightenment. So when you eventually emerge from Oz and dust yourself off, you are always the wiser.
That’s why it’s always said, at the end of all good fairytales, that they all lived happily ever after.
You just read a small extract from The Way, which will be available in online bookstores by Spring.
