A new venture

When I was in India, I learned that ayurvedic doctors would sometimes give their patients a story, instead of a prescription for herbs, as a remedy. That gave me a huge Aha! moment, about the true purpose of stories, or poetry as it was then, always delivered in rhyming metre. So that’s what inspired me to write my poems, which I mainly just stored on my computer, not really expecting to find a way to give them legs in the West where people are not much interested, these days, in poetry.

However, I’ve recently discovered that poems that are healing stories set to music which complements (and compliments!) the story arch and sentiment are reaching a fairly decent-sized, discerning audience. So I’ve been digging out my words and reaching out to musicians to collaborate with, and also finding suitable tracks in free music libraries.

I’m currently putting out about one song a week and my latest, released today, is in effect a shamanic journey into the Underworld, and called Open the Gates (cover art above: The Gates of Night by xeeming on DeviantArt).

I’ve also just finished a song, which I’m quite thrilled with. It’s called All Hallows Eve and so I’ll be releasing it nearer to Samhain. It harks back to a time when hallows were holy, and Halloween was a celebration of the rebirth of the Celtic Lord of Winter, Gwyn ap Nudd, as the constellation of Orion rose above the horizon in the night skies.

If you’d like to follow me, to hear the latest, do please find me on Soundcloud or Bandcamp under the name of Annie Dieu-Le-Veut.
